Maple Syrup and Nutmeg Fresh Fruit Salad

8:00 PM

Our typical version of a fresh fruit salad consists of whatever fruits we decide we want (or are in season) chopped up and mixed together-- simple and yes, quite delicious.  But when we tried this updated fruit salad with a touch of maple syrup and nutmeg, we were blown away by the difference it made.  This is our new favorite way to eat mixed fruit.

Don't get too concerned about the sugar content of the maple syrup or worry about your fruit tasting like pancakes.  The recipe calls for 1/4 cup maple syrup for 8 servings-- that's only 1/2 Tablespoons for every 1 serving!

Serves: 8 (1/2 cup servings)

Ingredients:
2 cups thinly sliced Granny Smith apple (about 1 large apple)
2 cups thinly sliced ripe pear (about 1 large pear)
1 cup sliced strawberries
1/2 cup orange sections (about 1 orange)
1/2 cup sliced banana (about 1 medium)
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions:
1.  Combine first 5 ingredients in a large bowl.
2.  Combine juice, syrup, nutmeg, and cinnamon.

3.  Spoon over fruit, and toss gently. Serve immediately or store in the fridge up to 3 days.
